photo a day...hanging around

i am not a fan of january.
back in the day when i worked in retail, it was the huge letdown after the awesome hustle and bustle of the holidays.
it is just blah. it is cold. it is gray. it doesn't have the sproutyness of spring. the lushness of summer. the drama of fall.
i'm all for a good nap and i get that ma nature needs a bit of down time but it is harsh on my color loving heart.
so, here is some more gray and brown.
oy.

Snuggling on the beach...a short but unbelievable video

This was sent to me via email...thanks, Mary.
I had to post it because it is one of the most transcendent moments of connection that I can imagine.
I think that I will keep this on my desktop and watch it whenever I am feeling out of alignment or lonely. Oh my.
The following is the text that came with video. I do not know who originally took the video. Watch with sound on.

This unique video is of a tourist who sat on the beach to watch the seals and penguins on Gold Harbor, South Georgia.

Unexpectedly, one of the seals is apparently attracted to her and, slowly works his way
over to her.  He seems to 'falls in love' and snuggles and flirts with her.  It is quite an unusual and interesting scene.

The seals are huge (up to 6,000 lbs), yet she never seemed afraid...more amused...while someone shot the video of this incident.
Gold Harbor, South Georgia, is located off the southern tip of South America (sub- arctic).
It is a small bay five miles S-SW of Cape Charlotte, with Bertrab Glacierat its head, along the east end of Georgia.

The west end of the beach where a glacial stream flows is a breeding ground for various types of penguins and large seals....It is not a frequent destination for tourists.
Enjoy!

photo a day...fish and houseguests

i know, snow
you are nestled in for a long winter's stay
tucked in cracks and crevices
and hiding on the shady side of the street
but beautiful snow, you have stayed too long
don't try to be pretty
with all your come hither glitter
even you can become like fish and houseguests
and nobody wants that
so beautiful snow, at least for now... go

but ps...when i miss you, can you come back for a few days?

roving possibility photo of the day

the smushy, fuzzy, wooly, wishiness of my growing stash of roving possibility
okay, day four. on day three, i realized that while i take a lot of photos normally, as i am out and about, that taking a photo a day is going to be a real test of commitment. yikes. only 361 more to go.
because of two very, uh, challenging sleep experiences of the past two nights, today's menu went from all sorts of ambitious, look out world, i am back greatness to hours of sitting and having a sleep deprivation headache to sleeping for a few hours this afternoon. and while i seriously considered taking a photo of my pillows, i thought i would instead grab one of my growing stash of wool roving. i started needle felting (read cool thing that you do with raw wool that involves a barbed needle to make it felt together and for me, A LOT of incredibly painful needle stabs) and just got an order of some more yesterday from my favorite supply store of all things craft yummy, Ornamentea! gonna chow down on dinner then start the stab-a-thon! woohoo.

indiana bones

this is one of my little furr babies. indiana bones. he has all the attitude that he looks like he does in the photo. he is adventurous (hence the name) and travels on his exploring feet all day long. he is fluffy, feisty, yippy and the cutest pain in the butt ever! he and his brother, charlie, are constant companions of mine. not surprising that one of them showed up only 3 days into the year.

not the photo of the day BUT very important

I just read an article about the end of days. In case you like to keep up with your appointments...go ahead and save the date...May 21, 2011. In fact, they (www.wecanknow.com) have bumper stickers with 'save the date' and 'noah knew' that you can get for free, in case you would like to advertise.
Apparently the date comes from a careful reading of the scriptures done by Harold Camping, 89. He has said the Bible, which is a cosmic calendar, reveals the date.
While I guess I could be concerned about this for one reason, I am REALLY concerned about it for another. You see, I am afraid now, that my family may be involved in the end of days.
May 21, 2011 is one of my sister's and her husband's anniversary. Hm.
That could be a coincidence so I let it ride.
I kept reading the article (http://www.heraldonline.com/2011/01/03/2724064/loose-christian-movement-says.html) and they mentioned the most famous end of days dates as predicted by Baptist Leader William Miller. He said it was Oct. 22, 1844. Well, that is kind of distressing. October 22 is my other sister and brother-in-law' anniversary AND my grandparents' anniversary. Now THAT can't be a coincidence.
So it got me thinking that I should perhaps trek out to hear them speak when they are in NC, just to make sure that I am not, in fact, the anti-christ. At this rate, there is no telling.
If it turns out that it is my family that brings about end of days, and you were hoping for a bit longer on this ol' rock, well then I am sorry. Truly.
